Mark Heid started drawing at an early age and grew up in a home that valued the arts and encouraged him. He eventually studied painting at The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts as well as studying with Nelson Shanks. His paintings are included in many private collections as well as public ones including the Dartmouth Medical School, the College of Physicians in Philadelphia and the International Paper company. He shows his work in the philadelphia area and works on commission portraits as well as teaching. In 2006, he was commissioned to paint Dr. C. Everett Koop, former U.S. Surgeon General of the United States. He lives in Central Pennsylvania with his wife and kids.
